Kate Atkinson

Registered Psychologist

Kate is a Registered Psychologist with over 15 years of experience supporting children, adolescents, and families. She has worked extensively as a School Psychologist in both Junior and Senior Schools at a leading private school, providing guidance across academic, social, behavioural, and emotional challenges. Kate has completed the ADHD WA School Psychologists and Counselling Training Program and holds a Graduate Diploma of Education (School Psychology) as well as a Bachelor of Science (Psychology) Honours.

As a mother of two adolescents, Kate brings personal insight to her professional practice, combining lived experience with evidence-based psychological approaches. She also develops and presents parenting seminars on topics such as building emotionally resilient students, supporting social and emotional development, and facilitating smooth transitions to senior school and Years 11 and 12.

Beyond her professional role, Kate is actively involved in the community and sports. She serves on the Board of the Independent School Counsellors’ Association of WA, has volunteered as a sports psychologist for the Western Australian Institute of Sport, Wanslea, and the Salvation Army Crisis Care Line, and has achieved notable athletic milestones, including competing in the World Youth Yachting Championships, qualifying for the Half Ironman World Championships, and earning the title of Ocean Racing World Champion in her age category.

Experience with First Responders and the Defence Force
Kate has 10 years’ experience supporting parents, children, and adolescents with challenges such as anxiety, depression, school refusal, grief and loss, non-suicidal self-harm, ADHD, Autism, and friendship or relationship issues. She has also spent two years working with Centrelink clients. This experience has provided her with insight into the unique stressors faced by first responders and Defence Force personnel and their families, allowing her to deliver tailored, supportive care.
