Dr Maliththa Muwanwella
Consultant Psychiatrist
Dr Muwanwella is a Consultant Psychiatrist and Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP). She provides outpatient psychiatric care for adults, with treatment tailored to each patient’s clinical needs and circumstances.
She completed her medical degree at the University of Colombo in Sri Lanka in 2004 before relocating to Perth and undertaking specialist psychiatry training in Western Australia. Since 2019, she has worked as a Consultant Psychiatrist in the Mother and Baby Unit at Fiona Stanley Hospital.
Dr Muwanwella specialises in perinatal psychiatry, supporting women during pregnancy and the postpartum period. She treats conditions including antenatal anxiety, postnatal depression, birth trauma, perinatal obsessive-compulsive disorder, bipolar disorder during pregnancy and postpartum psychosis.
She also has expertise in managing psychiatric medication during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Where appropriate, she works with GPs, obstetricians, paediatricians, psychologists and other clinicians involved in the patient’s care.
Dr Muwanwella offers psychotherapy to address emotional, psychological and relational concerns. She also completes Section 291 assessments.
Her practice is limited to outpatient care. She does not conduct ADHD or Autism Spectrum Disorder assessments or manage patients who require hospital admission.
