Dr Vijay Ganasan

Dr Ganasan is a Consultant Psychiatrist with a special interest in addiction psychiatry, dual diagnosis, and complex psychiatric presentations. He supports adults experiencing mood disorders, anxiety, trauma-related conditions, and substance use disorders through comprehensive assessment and tailored treatment.

Dr Ganasan is currently a Consultant Psychiatrist and Clinical Lead of the Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Inpatient Service at Cockburn Health in Western Australia, where he leads a multidisciplinary team delivering specialised addiction care.

He holds a Doctor of Medicine (MD) and a Master’s in Psychological Medicine, and has completed formal fellowship-level training in addiction medicine. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP).

Before practising in Australia, Dr Ganasan worked as a psychiatrist in the Malaysian public health system, providing specialist care across hospital and community settings and leading addiction treatment programs.

Dr Ganasan is known for his compassionate, collaborative, and evidence-based approach. He works alongside patients to understand their experiences, clarify treatment goals, and develop personalised care plans. Alongside his clinical work, he is actively involved in teaching and supervising psychiatry trainees and medical practitioners.
