Dr Linthoi Akoijam
Clinical Psychologist
Dr Linthoi Akoijam is an experienced Clinical Child Psychologist with over 25 years of practice across India, Australia, the UK, and New Zealand. She has worked in community clinics, hospitals, schools, and NGOs, supporting children, adolescents, and adults with a wide range of mental health challenges. Her areas of expertise include anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, and the emotional wellbeing of young people.
Dr Linthoi is passionate about helping children and families build stronger, healthier connections. She works not only with young clients but also with parents and caregivers, supporting them to better understand their child’s emotions, strengthen relationships, and manage behavioural and emotional difficulties effectively.
Her approach is grounded in evidence-based therapies, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Compassion Focused Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and Systemic family therapies. She integrates these with sensitivity to each client’s cultural and social context, recognising the importance of both biological and socio-cultural influences on mental health.
Tuning into Teens: Group Parenting Program
Dr Linthoi also runs the Tuning into Teens program, an evidence-based group program for parents of children aged 10 to 16. The program helps parents understand the emotional world of their teens, improve communication, and strengthen relationships during the often-challenging adolescent years. Parents learn practical strategies to become an “emotion coach” for their teens, guiding them in recognising and regulating emotions.
Collaborative and compassionate, Dr Linthoi believes in the innate capacity for growth and resilience in every individual. She works closely with clients and families to develop tailored strategies that promote wellbeing, strengthen relationships, and empower young people to thrive.
